FPA ENVISIONS A COMMUNITY THAT IS CONSCIOUS ABOUT ITS SEXUAL AND REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH AND RIGHTS IN GENERAL.

Aruba’s socio-economical challenges during the 1960’s encouraged physicians to work together to improve the sexual and reproductive health of the community. Famia Planea Aruba, also known as FPA, was officially established on November 24th, 1970. FPA started with just a few clients and one service. Now FPA provides nine services, serves over 17 thousand clients and distributes over 96 thousand contraceptives products annually. With over fifty years of experience FPA is recognized as a proud partner of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) and the Aruban Government, curtail for leading the SRHR movement on Aruba.

FPA’s mission is to promote the rights of, and accessibility to, services, information and education about contraceptives and sexual health in general to the community of Aruba, without any discrimination regarding race, religion, political or sexual orientation.

The sustainable development goals, adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future. At its heart are the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), which are an urgent call for action by all countries, developed and developing, in a global partnership. They recognize that ending poverty and other deprivations must go hand-in-hand with strategies that improve health and education, reduce inequality, and spur economic growth; all while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests by 2030.
The 17 SDG’s are all intertwined, recognizing that one goal cannot be achieved without the other. Every development must find a balance between social, economic and environment. Honoring the promise of “No man left behind” it was agreed upon to start to execute in countries of greater need. With this in mind the SDG’s aim to develop more “Zero’s” meaning zero poverty, zero hunger, zero HIV/AIDS and zero discrimination against women and girls.
The contribution of one and all is needed in order to achieve these ambitious goals. Creativity based on knowledge, technology and financial resources of each society are the building blocks and stepping stones towards achieving these goals.
FPA is also implementing the steps to help achieve the sustainable development goals by incorporating these in all our services, workshops, projects, campaigns and future plans, with the aim to promote sexual health in general and contraceptives. In doing so FPA hopes to achieve a community that is aware of their sexual health and that is motivated to take control of their body, life and future.
